GUIDELINES FOR COMMISSIONED PIECES:
The current fee for a commission drawing is $250 US for an 11" x 14" photo-real pencil drawing (at the moment I am only drawing that size). That is a basic rate which will increase depending on the amount of additional work required to complete a drawing. Sketches are less and start at $150.

I only increase the rate for the following reasons: the model in the picture has long hair (anything longer than a butch haircut), the image has a background other than solid white, OR the model is wearing clothes (which requires more detail work). You can expect to pay an additional $100 - $150 if your commission piece requires extra detail work.

HOW TO SUBMIT AN IMAGE FOR A COMMISSION DRAWING:

Please email me the picture you'd like drawn to my email address (at bottom of page) with a note telling me WHO you are and WHERE you live (if you are out of the country). It may take up to a week before you hear a response to your commission request, and then I will write you back with comments and a price quote to your particular piece. Also, please read the following advisory about what sort of images I will and will not draw:

I WILL draw full frontal nudes, but they will cost more than non-nude pictures. Why? because I have only a narrow market for reproductions of frontal nudes. As for drawings that are sexually explicit, I make decisions on a case-by-case basis.

COMMISSIONED OIL PAINTINGS:    Yes, I do take oil commissions. They are much more expensive than pencil, so I usually discuss them in person when I can. Generally, I have to "sell" a person on the idea of owning a painting as an investment because most people buy ready-made art and don't pay for commission work. And it's difficult for me to sell something like that through email. Also, because of the amount of time required to finish a painting (usually a month to two months), I have to schedule them on a calendar.
To start, you should tell me what size canvas you are thinking about (just work with basic 3', 4' and 5' dimensions if you aren't familiar with standard canvas sizes). I rarely do oil paintings smaller than 2' x 3', however, so think big. Also, you should tell me about the image you have in mind. What is most important is how many people are in the image and does the image have a busy background (like a forest) or a simple background like a wall or the ocean.
I can work with most images though some need to be cropped or "cleaned up" to make them better paintings. I really don't care what I am painting, but the number of people affects the price.
Without discussing any kind of ballpark price, just keep this in mind: when I'm doing a painting, that's all I'm working on for weeks at a time, so the painting has to support me all that while. If I offer you a quote, it's not supposed to be negotiable. I only knock the price down for a legitimate reason that affects the amount of work I'm doing (example: you decided you want to remove a bowl of fruit from the foreground so I will have less to paint). If you have any other questions about a commission piece, please write me.
   Thanks for your interest!
